Speaking at the opening ceremony, which was enlivened with the marches of the Izmir Metropolitan Municipality Band teams in front of the pier, Altınordu Football Club President Seyit Mehmet Özkan said, “We are trying to reveal Sait Altınordu, the most important building block of Altınordu foundation. We are here to serve the children of this land. Our goal will never be to be a champion, but to raise a good generation. Our future is our children… Our aim is to create good individuals, good citizens and good football players. “We will raise our children well so that these lands will have better days,” he said.

Speaking at the ceremony, Konak Mayor Sema Pekdaş said, “Sait Altınordu is one of the most beautiful people that İzmir has raised. The people of Izmir also showed loyalty when choosing these names. “May our Altınordu team always increase together with Izmir and enrich us and Izmir” .


Aziz Kocaoğlu, who started his speech by talking about the importance of Sait Altınordu for İzmir, said, “Sait Altınordu, one of the most important figures of Turkish football, responded to the offers he received from Istanbul by saying, ‘I want to live in İzmir’. Mayor Kocaoğlu also gave information about the important event that will take place over the weekend in Izmir. After the speeches, Altınordu President Özkan presented a bronze Sait Altınordu statue to Mayor Kocaoğlu. After the ceremony, the vessel was put into service with a ribbon cutting. During the ribbon cutting, Sait Altınordu’s wife Nimet Altınordu could not hold back her tears. Kocaoğlu and his accompanying guests boarded the vessel and took a tour of the bay.


The landing ceremony of the Sait Altınordu vessel in the Gulf also witnessed a first. Following the female driver application initiated in municipal buses affiliated with ESHOT, the employment of female captains started in İZDENİZ. Renda Aslantaş took the helm as the first female ferry captain on the Sait Altınordu ferry that entered service. Aziz Kocaoğlu, who traveled on the first voyage of the ferry, visited Aslantaş in the wheelhouse.


Sait Altınordu, one of the greatest masters of Turkish football ever, pursued the leather ball until he was 43 years old. Sait Altınordu, who played for the Altınordu team continuously for 27 years, crowned this success with coaching. He identified himself with his club so much that he even took his surname as “Altınordu”. Throughout his long football career, he turned down astronomical transfer offers from big clubs such as Fenerbahçe and Galatasaray. In the survey in which more than 500 thousand votes were cast, the name 1881-Atatürk received the highest votes. Izmir Metropolitan Municipality, which has put 9 ships produced to date into service, named these vessels Çakabey, 9 Eylül, 1881 Atatürk, Soma 301, Dario Moreno, Attila İlhan, Foça, Cengiz Kocatoros and Gürsel Aksel. The passenger car vessels that were delivered were named Hasan Tahsin and Ahmet Piriştina, which also stood out in the survey.
